A Day in the Life at STFA Middle School

AN ESSAY BY IMMA KIDD, 6TH GRADE

Today was the best day of school, ever even though we started the day with P.E. and ended the day with a writing assignment. I hate P.E. for the first class of the day because then you spend the day all hot and gross. And no one likes writing an essay, ever.

Even though I hate P.E. and I really hate P.E. early in the day, we had a great time today. We played a game called ‘Catapult’ with a huge parachute and a ball. We all stood around the edge of the parachute and raised our arms up and down to get the ball rolling. Then we had to “pop the chute” to try and get the ball to bounce as high as we could get it. It sounded super lame but once we started playing it was fun and we even popped the chute to hard the ball popped all the way to the roof! Mr. Miyagi, our gym teacher, said we did a great job and we all got a Poppin’ Good scratch n sniff sticker!

Then I had Social Studies with my favorite teacher Mrs. Frizzle. Everyone who turned in their homework got a Berry Good sticker. They are my favorite because I love strawberries. I even got an extra Dil-Ightful pickle sticker because I volunteered to collect the homework from everyone.

I was dreading going to math class next. Mrs. Beadle gave us a pop quiz on multiplication yesterday and I was afraid I did not do very good on the quiz. But when she handed back my quiz I had a 100 and a Pear-Fect scratch n sniff sticker. What a great surprise!

Lunch today was pizza that smelled just like a Hot Stuff sticker but I only stayed in the cafeteria for 20 minutes because there was a book fair in the library and I had found an extra $5 in my book bag! I bought TWO new Choose Your Own Adventure Books and new sticker keeper!

After lunch, I got to go to my very favorite class, Art. I love Art because I get to use my big bod of 64 crayons. I just wish I could understand Ms. Othmar, my art teacher, better. She always mumbles.

In science class, Mr. Nye showed us a cool experiment with a balloon and my sweater. We learned about static electricity. I got a Grape Stuff sticker for my collection because I let Mr. Nye use my sweater in his experiment. Tomorrow we learn about current electricity but I don’t think I will want to be a volunteer for that experiment!

Finally I headed to the last class of the day, Language Arts with Miss Grothke. I usually like this class because Miss Grothke believes “Reading is Fundamental” and we get to spend most of the class reading really great books but today Mis Grothke said writing was also really important so I had to write this essay for a class assignment. I guess it was not so bad.

My day was pretty awesome even though I did not want to start the day with P.E. or write an essay in Language Arts. I got 6 stickers for my collection, two new adventure books, and I got to color in Art. Like I said, this was the best day of school, ever.
